In keeping with its vision and mission of providing the safest and most reliable ambulance service in the CNMI, all members of the Saint Michael’s crew underwent and completed their annual drug-screening test this past month and all test results came back negative for any drugs or illicit substances.

Saint Michael’s commits itself to maintaining a drug-free workplace for its employees and providing quality care to our patients. To that end, Saint Michael’s, as part of its companywide policy, conducts drug-screening tests among all of its personnel annually. This is one method in assuring that Saint Michael’s patients are receiving the safest ambulance services whenever patients call for its services. SMMR crew also just completed a course on Infection Control and Bloodborne Pathogens at the invitation of the staff at the Commonwealth Healthcare Corp.’s Infection Control Department.

SMMR emergency vehicle operator and attendants are specially trained to handle emergency vehicles and treat patients while on board any of our vehicles. Therefore, it is absolutely crucial that both employees are not under the influence because they literally have the patients’ lives in their hands. This is true for any ambulance operator/attendant either private sector or government. Not only is our drug free policy good for business but also, it is simply our responsibility as a private ambulance company to provide the safest and most reliable ambulance transport for our community and the visitors that come to the CNMI. Despite the fact that drug testing is not required by local law, SMMR voluntarily mandates all employees to undergo drug screening regularly as part of company policy.

“We have always had a drug-screening policy in place since the company started back in 2009,” said Francis Taimanao, operations chief and compliance officer for SMMR. Routine and random drug screening is also a requirement in our companywide compliance plan program as required by the Centers for Medicaid and Medicare. All personnel are required to take this type of screening prior to and while employed at Saint Michael’s.
