Sendoff today for Guam Guard airmen
A sendoff ceremony will be held today, Aug. 28, beginning at 2:30pm, in the Governor’s Cabinet conference room of the Governor Ricardo J. Bordallo Complex, in Adelup, to bid farewell to deploying airmen.
Overseas deployments continue for the Guam Air National Guard, with airmen from the 254th Security Forces Squadron and the 254th Comptroller Flight to deploy in support of Operation Freedom Sentinel and Operation Inherent Resolve later this month.
The members of the 254th Security Forces Squadron are tasked with the protection of federal property from hazards such as sabotage, espionage, trespass, theft, fire, and accident or willful damage and destruction and to maintain law and order, preserve the peace, and protect life and civil rights within the U.S. Central Command Theater of Operations in order to engineer combat power and establish and sustain combat platforms.
A member of the 254th Comptroller Flight will support U.S. Air Force CENTCOM with a mission to provide war fighting support capabilities and enhance the tools required to perform the job by developing an expeditionary mindset, improving contingency/war fighting capabilities, and improving comptroller war planning.
The Guard asks the public for their continued support as this deployment will have a significant impact on our Air Guard component.
“We want to thank the people of Guam, especially the employers, for their continued support of our airmen and their families,” said Maj. Gen. Roderick R. Leon Guerrero, the adjutant general for the Guam National Guard. “We still have airmen from the 254th Red Horse Squadron who are currently deployed or supporting missions around the world. Please keep them and these airmen in your thoughts and prayers now as they prepare to deploy and for the duration of their deployment.”
The airmen are scheduled to leave in the coming weeks and will be deployed for approximately six months. (PR)
