The Youth Advisory Panel met yesterday at the Seaside Hall of the Kanoa Resort to plan out their schedule for the month, soon after acting governor Victor B. Hocog signed a proclamation declaring September as Youth Empowerment Month.
The YAP planning session at the Kanoa Resort was in collaboration with the Public School System.
“…We gather all of our youth advisory leaders and they plan, discuss, and collaborate with [leaders from] other schools. They also bring activities to the middle and elementary schools,” said PSS Personal Responsibility Education Program director Melisha San Nicolas.
San Nicolas noted that YAP leaders totaled about 70 to 80 yesterday.
Kagman High School YAP president Genzo Gonzales noted that being in YAP is way for students to represent the school in a positive light.
“Being a part of the YAP is basically being a leader for your school,” he said.
KHS YAP vice president Aundrea Aldan noted that some of the outreach programs they do include anti-bullying talks.
“We do a lot of outreach to middle school and elementary levels, where we talk about bullying, sexual violence, cyber bullying, and things like that,” she said. Aldan’s involvement with YAP dates back to her time at the Chacha Oceanview Middle School.
“We made a difference back in middle school, where we are getting them excited for high school. One of the main things that makes us youth leaders is getting these incoming students excited for the new school year and getting them ready for high school,” said Gonzales.
