PH consul: A final chance to register for overseas voting
The Philippine Consulate Office in Guam reminds Filipino citizens to register as an absentee voter while they are here because it would be the last chance to do so.
Philippine Consul to Guam Mark Francis Hamoy told Saipan Tribune on Tuesday that the current consular outreach, which spans from Tuesday through today, Thursday, is accepting walk-ins to accommodate those seeking to register as an absentee voter for the upcoming 2019 Philippine elections.
“For those who want to vote in the 2019 national elections, the deadline for registration is Sept. 30, 2018. This would be the last opportunity…to register as an overseas voter,” he said.
After Sept. 30, in order to register as an overseas voter, one must at least fly over to Guam to visit the Philippine Consulate-General just to register.
Hamoy reiterated that the Philippine consular outreach would only be on Saipan from Tuesday through Thursday, in the Social Hall of the Mt. Carmel Cathedral in Susupe from 8am to 5pm.
As of 4pm Tuesday, the outreach was able to entertain 126 passport renewal applicants, one extension of passport validity, two petitions for re-acquisition of Philippine citizenship, one report of birth, and one affidavit for delayed registration of report of birth.
Saipan Tribune learned that the outreach is readily expecting 420 passport application renewals.
Hamoy noted that since Philippine honorary consul Glicerio Arago could accommodate some consular services, the outreach would be providing the remaining services.
