DPS reports no thefts following Yutu
The Department of Public Safety said there have been no reports of looting and burglaries since Super Typhoon Yutu devastated the islands.
In a press briefing yesterday, DPS Commissioner Robert Guerrero said there have been no reports of thefts and burglaries following Yutu that left the island completely without electricity.
When Super Typhoon Soudelor hit the CNMI three years ago, various theft and burglaries were reported due to the lack of electricity. This time around, there have been none.
Guerrero said the department is doing round-the-clock patrolling.
According to Guerrero, aside from police officers being more vigilant in ensuring that there are no looting and burglaries going on, police officers have been instructed not to be lenient with cases such as theft and burglary. This means police officers will not hesitate to interfere and arrest anyone who is found looting or entering damaged homes and damaged businesses during dark hours.
