Banes cited for reckless driving

Lawyer David George Banes is facing a traffic case after being cited by a police officer for reckless driving along Dandan Road.

Banes, 55, appeared pro se or without a lawyer before Superior Court Presiding Judge Roberto C. Naraja last Oct. 4. Assistant attorney general Jonathan Robert Glass represented the government, according to court documents.

Banes waived the reading of the charge and pleaded not guilty.

As of press time, Saipan Tribune was awaiting comments from the lawyer.

Naraja set a status conference for Dec. 6 at 1:30pm.

Reckless driving is a misdemeanor punishable by a fine of $1,000 or six months imprisonment or both.

It was Police Officer L. Lizama who issued the citation last Sept. 3. Banes was allegedly recklessly driving a red Toyota vehicle on Dandan Road at about 4:30pm.
