Chagi, Bomb Digz triumph

Chigi and Bomb Digz topped their respective divisions in the Marianas International Basketball League 3×3 Tournament held over the weekend at the Civic Center court and Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.
Bomb Digz won the women’s open division championship after outclassing CTSI in the finals, 16-11, while Chagi triumphed in the women’s U18 category after slipping past Tinian in the title game, 13-10.
Sharmaine Francisco scored 5 points to lift Chagi to the close win. Ruschell Valino and Paulyn Joyce added 4 markers each in the title victory, while Colleen Cing paced Tinian with her 5 points. Emiliana King chipped in 4 and Pritz Carreon made one for the visiting squad, which also had Jaren Lagunay on its roster.
Chagi defeated Tinian three times in the tournament with the champion’s first win coming via default and the second at the 10-6 tally. Chagi collected five victories in the division with the other two recorded against the Junior Lady Ol’Aces, 11-4 and 7-3.
Tinian lost to the Junior Lady Ol’Aces in their first meeting, 6-7, but got even in the second and advanced to the finals after posting an 8-2 triumph.
In the women’s open division, veteran Connie Camacho teamed up with Lia Rangamar, Eleina Santos, and Jan Travilla to beat CTSI, which was made up of Alliyah Fernandez, Irish Pagarao, Madeleine Alegre, and Nana Watanabe.
Bomb Digz swept the preliminary round of the four-team field to gain the top seeding in the playoffs. The eventual champion first edged the Lady Aces, 8-5, and then thwarted CTSI, 13-6. Bomb Digz, whose members have played for the CNMI national team, closed out the prelims with a lopsided victory over the Ballerz, 20-6.
With its unbeaten record heading into the playoffs, Bomb Digz was paired against the Lady Aces in the semifinals and eased its way to the title match after a 16-4 victory
CTSI, on the other hand, earned a 6-point win against the Ballerz, 12-6, to get a second crack at Bomb Digz. CTSI was ranked No. 2 in the playoffs after posting a 2-1 mark in the preliminary round. The runner-up team nosed out the Lady Ol’Aces in the first game, 13-11, and then defeated the Ballerz in the second, 8-5, before missing a perfect record after a loss to Bomb Digz.
