Free OSHA trainings

The CNMI Department of Labor is inviting all interested individuals to attend free Occupational Safety and Health Administration training classes starting today, Feb. 19, 2019.

The classes will be taught by OSHA-authorized instructors from the University of California, San Diego. The training team will share their experience and knowledge on topics such as fall protection and demolition hazards as well as provide information on federal and state safety and health regulations.

The training will take place at the Marianas Base Camp in Marpi, formerly the Mariana Resort & Spa, unless otherwise noted. See schedule of classes below for more information.

– Feb. 19, 2019, 9am – 11:30am
Topic: Electrical/Electrocution Hazards during Typhoon Clean-Up Operations

–  Feb. 19, 2019, 1pm – 3:30pm
Topic: Fall Protection during Typhoon Clean-Up Operations.

– Feb. 26, 2019, 9am – 11:30am
Topic: Health and Hygiene Hazards during Typhoon Clean-up Operations. Training topics will focus on water contamination, animal and insect bites, chemical and biological concerns, and mold hazards. Emphasis on prevention through hygiene practices and respiratory protection. 

– Feb. 27, 2019, 9am – 11:30am
Topic: Demolition Hazards during Typhoon Clean-Up Operations

“The safety of all employees is a primary concern and the timing of these training courses is perfect because most of us are involved with the typhoon recovery efforts and the rebuilding of homes and business,” Labor Secretary Vicky Benavente said.

The trainings are open to the public. Those involved in post-typhoon debris cleanup and removal, employed in the construction industry, or work in high-risk occupations are encouraged to attend.  Seating is limited, and will be on a first-come, first-served basis. (PR)
