Hopwood student tops BECQ’s anti-litter logo contest

The Bureau of Environmental and Coastal Quality named yesterday the winners of its first ever anti-littering logo design contest, with a student from Hopwood Middle School beating out 16 other entries to win first place.
Regina Frances Terlaje Pangelinan of Hopwood won the $150 prize as first-place winner of the contest. Second place went to Chealzka Navarro of Green Meadow School, while third place went to Alexis Marie Paras Cabrera, also of Hopwood. Navarro and Cabrera received $125 and $100, respectively.
They were named the contest winners at an awards ceremony at the BECQ administrator office last May 29.
The contest was held from April 5 to May 10 and was open to private and middle school students. A total of 17 entries from Hopwood Middle School, Saipan Community School, and Green Meadow School were submitted to the Environmental Awareness Week Committee for judging.
The contest was part of the 2019 Environmental Awareness Week celebration last May 27-31, which had the theme, “Treasure our Earth, Protect our Resources.”
The EAW committee considered all entries with the following criteria: effectiveness, creativity, uniqueness, and message.
The winning logo was redesigned and printed on to stickers that were distributed at the award ceremony to the school staff, students, and parents.
