Public outreach on financial situation reset to June 26

To provide greater information to the general public on the CNMI’s financial situation, the Torres administration’s public outreach presentation will be rescheduled to June 26, 2019 to accommodate additional presenters and federal officials who will be on island to further explain recovery goals and economic solutions following the devastation caused by Super Typhoon Yutu.

The public is invited to listen to presentations from the CNMI Department of Finance, the Office of Management and Budget, the Office of Planning and Development, and federal agencies on the administration’s overall recovery priorities, the decision to curtail spending in order to stabilize government finances, and to discuss a path forward for the community.

Presentations will be held at the Pedro P. Tenorio Multi-Purpose Center on Wednesday, June 26, 2019 at 5:30 p.m.

Gov. Ralph DLG Torres reiterated that the outreach presentations will further clarify the CNMI’s current economic and financial state.

“It is important that we all truly understand the challenges we face, so that we can face them together on our road to recovery. I understand wholeheartedly that is a hard time for our people, but we remain hopeful that we will get by, get better, and get stronger. While Super Typhoon Yutu devastated us significantly, we are confident that we will recover faster as we continue to work hand-in-hand with FEMA and our federal partners on a positive solution that will benefit everyone,” he said.

“It is important to me that even in the rush of decisions that need to be made to ensure that our people are safe and secure, our community needs the full story, and we are more than happy to discuss everything that needs to be known about our finances. With our elected leaders and government officials, we have collectively taken action across the board in the central government, the Legislature, the Judiciary, Northern Marianas College and our Public School System to get us back on track. Lt. Gov. [Arnold I.] Palacios and I thank all of you truly for making sacrifices. Your efforts won’t go unnoticed, and we promise you that we will get through this together.
