NMTI: 70 pct. of NMTI graduates employed
The Northern Marianas Trades Institute clarified yesterday that 70 percent of its graduates have been employed in the CNMI workforce, to emphasize that NMTI’s number of graduates have been increasing over the years.
According to NMTI Continuing Education director Ross Manglona, that increase in their number of graduates has translated to more NMTI alumni joining the local workforce.
As an example, he pointed out that, in 2015, 38 out of 52 NMTI graduates were employed in the CNMI workforce.
The year after, in 2016, a total of 76 students graduated, and 49 of them were employed right after, he said.
In 2017 and 2018, he said, NMTI saw a total of 166 of 229 graduates employed locally.
The other who were not employed were either ongoing high school students, failed their drug tests, had some medical conditions, or were too young to join the workforce.
“Both the private and public sectors have been a big help in investing in our graduates. They invested so much in us and it is paying off,” Manglona added.
He believes that the number of graduates, as well as NMTI’s number of enrollees, will just continue to increase.
According to Manglona, NMTI saw an increase in the number of its students between the 2016-2017 school year and the 2017-2018 school year, with school year 2016-2017 having 351 students and school year 2017-2018 nearly doubling to 614.
NMTI has been collaborating with the Public School System since school year 2014-15 and both entities have been integrating classes such as Hotel & Restaurant Operations and Car Care.
NMTI chief executive officer Agnes McPhetres envisions that, at a later time, NMTI and PSS can work together for students in the middle school stage to provide children the interest and an opportunity to choose a career.
