Ship catches fire off Tinian

A ship with two people aboard caught fire off the coast of Tinian early yesterday morning but there were no immediate reports of any fatalities or injuries.
A source on Tinian who agreed to speak on the condition of anonymity said he heard about the vessel fire early yesterday morning at around 8am, that there were passengers aboard the vessel, and that everyone made it out unharmed.
The vessel, identified as the Lousia Bell, a 30-foot, blue and yellow boat, has since sunk off the coast of Tinian. The captain of the boat was Mariano Lelurman.
A statement from the Tinian Department of Public Safety said that the island’s police received a call about a burning vessel outside the Tinian harbor at around 7:25am.
Tinian Boating Safety was dispatched to the scene at around 7:45am, along with two Department of Fire and Emergency Medical Services personnel.
At the scene, responding officers found the vessel engulfed in flames. The responding officers said the two passengers on board took refuge in another boat that came to assist when they noticed the burning vessel. The passengers were reportedly unharmed.
The U.S Coast Guard was also notified about the vessel and advised Tinian DPS to tow the burning vessel out to sea. That was done until the boat sank into the ocean between Tinian Carolinas Point and Goat Island.
The U.S Coast Guard is advising local mariners to stay away from the location of the sunken vessel for safety purposes.
