NMI Museum closed for upgrades

History buffs and museum lovers should expect an even better experience at the NMI Museum of History and Culture next week.

The museum and its exhibits are being upgraded right now, so it is temporarily closed until Aug. 26, Monday. This is the first phase of three planned upgrades of the museum.

The museum has been going through repairs in the past months, using funds from the Marianas Visitors Authority, to preserve the building and to safeguard its exhibits.

In an interview in April, NMI Museum director Daniel Aquino Jr. said that following the completion of the repairs on the building, they will begin to build temporary huts to provide a venue for local artists to teach, display, and sell local products to museum guests.

Last June, Aquino lobbied for a constant source of funding for the museum. Aquino said that with enough funds, the museum could work on upgrades (such as a coffee shop and the proposed fixture of the underground bunker) that could attract more visitors and help generate funds.
