NWS sees rainy week ahead; watch out for potential typhoons
The National Weather Service in Tiyan, Guam, predicts this week to be wet.
Based on NWS information compiled at the CNMI Emergency Operations Center State Warning Point on Capital Hill, rainy weather is expected this week across Saipan, Tinian, and Rota.
A separate weather advisory from the Anderson Air Force Base in Guam warned that typhoons are most frequent from June to November, with as many as 26 typhoons forming in a season, so keep an eye out for any weather disturbance in the next few months.
According to the weather advisory the EOC issued yesterday, it said that weather models continue to show the development of a large monsoonal circulation developing across the area. The circulation will move across the Marianas by Tuesday and into the Philippine Sea by mid-week. The circulation itself plus low-level convergence east of it will keep scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms over the local area from last night through much of the coming week.
Model rainfall accumulations indicate that up to 8 inches of rain could fall from last night through next Saturday.
The public is being advised that, due to the drought earlier this year, localized flooding will be possible in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Check storm drains in your area to make sure they are not clogged. If planning anything outdoors this week, have a backup plan in place. (PR)
