Caravan’s demolished the hapless TanHoldings, 144-54, in the curtain-raiser of the Atkins Kroll Marianas International Basketball League last Saturday at the Marianas High School Gymnasium.
Up against a short-handed TanHoldings crew, which only had seven players for last weekend’s game, Caravan’s scored at will for the biggest winning margin in the 10-team league so far. Caravan’s output is also the most made by a team early in the season, giving the squad its third victory in five games and handing TanHoldings a 0-5 record.
With TanHoldings lacking manpower, the loaded roster of Caravan’s had the game in the bag right in the first quarter after leading by 23 points, 36-13. Josh Andrew led Caravan’s thumping of TanHoldings early in the match after scoring 10 points. Melvin Villarin added 7, while Sid Quan, Alex Standish, and Ken Viray combined for 13 more markers—the same output made by the entire TanHoldings squad. Only three players hit baskets for TanHoldings in the first quarter.
With its limited options on offense, TanHoldings continued to bleed for points in the second period, while Caravan’s toyed around its foes’ defense or the lack of it to widen the gap further. By the end of the first half, Caravan’s was way ahead, 66-27.
Despite the comfortable lead, Caravan’s showed no mercy in the second half and kept pouncing on the depleted TanHoldings.
Viray and Standish delivered the killer punches in the second half and as if those were not enough to pound TanHoldings, Salam Younis and Prince Factor also piled up points in the final 20 minutes of the game to complete Caravan’s 90-point winning margin.
Viray paced Caravan’s with his 24 points, while Andrew chipped in 23, and Standish and Villarin logged 19 apiece. Quan, Younis, and Factor contributed 18, 16, and 13, respectively, while Kerwin Dayao carried the load for TanHoldings after making 31.
