All of the seven Grace Christian Academy students that participated in the National Junior Speech and Debate Association’s first monthly competition in September have won top awards.

Almost all of the GCA competitors are in 6th grade, except one. That means it was their first time to compete in this league. Despite only a few days to prepare, all of them emerged as winners in one or two of the events in which they competed.

Janus Roman Calayo, a first-timer at the NJSDA and sixth grader, won two first place in his events, and seventh grader Jennifer Woo, the only student who is not a first-time competitor in the league, won first and second place in her events. Both of these students have been competing in the Primary Grades Forensic competition since elementary grade at GCA, which prepared them to compete at the junior high school level.

More GCA students will be joining the next monthly competitions to hone their public speaking as well as reading and writing skills.

NJSDA competitions encourage public and private school students to participate in and become proficient in reading, public speaking, debate, and interpretations. (PR)
