Pardz beats Mawati in consolation game

Padre Ballers defeated Mawati, 83-74, to take the third place honors in the 2019 One Pacific Promotional Basketball League last Wednesday at the Civic Center Court.

Pardz, which was beaten by Tsingtao Boyz in the semis, 102-98, this time came out the winner in the consolation match against Mawati after building enough lead in the first three quarters.

In the opening canto, Lucky Jose and Ronald Bernardo’s scored 6 points apiece to lift Pardz to a 23-14 advantage. Ronald Romo and Joseph Galulu also helped out Pardz’s cause after combining for 8 markers.

Pardz padded its lead in the second period, 46-37, as it continued to draw baskets from every player it fielded in the game. Joseph Torres made 7 points, while Romo and Joel Saplan chipped in 4 each, as Pardz drilled three triples against none from Mawati.

Jose, who was scoreless in the second period, came back in the third and registered 7 points, helping Pardz keep the double-digit lead, 64-49, going into the fourth quartet.

Down by 15, Mawati tried to pick up the slack in the fourth quarter with Jerome Reyes and John Rena stepping up, but the team just managed to move within 4 points midway through the final canto. Pardz, on the other hand, gained more cushion, as it continued to play a balance offense with seven different players lighting up the board in the last frame.

Meanwhile, the one-game finals between Tsingtao Boyz and Connie’s BBQ will be played this Sunday.
