The newly-formed CNMI Emergency Medical Team will be made to go through its paces this Friday, from 8am to 4:30pm, in a simulation exercise at the airport field.

This exercise is part of the CNMI EMT’s training, and will include setting up a small field clinic, as well as the reenactment of emergency triage on individuals who will be acting as if they are afflicted with illness and/or injury.

It will also cap the team’s training since being formed with the help of the World Health Organization and Team Rubicon,

Residents should be advised that there will be no actual emergency on Friday. Simulation exercises such as this are vital in allowing the EMT to practice for real emergency situations, and will help the team to practice working together, setting up and breaking down their equipment, and addressing potential challenges in a controlled environment.

The CNMI EMT was created last week, in coordination with the WHO, which will be composed of individuals from different departments of the CHCC and the Department of Fire and Emergency Medical Services. The CNMI EMT is the first EMT created in a U.S.-affiliated territory within the WHO’s Pacific jurisdiction.

EMTs serve as deployable clinical teams that can operate in some of the most remote and difficult locations. EMTs are essentially field hospitals, capable of providing care to patients in an emergency or disaster, despite wide-scale destruction or lack of available local resources.
