TanHoldings Tennis Classic kicks off Friday

The Northern Mariana Islands Tennis Association will start the 2019-2020 season with the staging of the 10th TanHoldings Tennis Classic, beginning this Friday at the various courts on Saipan.

Fifteen matches will be played in the opening day of the competition that was supposed to have its 10th edition last year, but the event had to be shelved due to Super Typhoon Yutu. The TanHoldings Tennis Classic will return to action this year with games in the juniors singles and doubles events highlighting the opening week of the two-weekend tournament.

For the 5pm games, Hyun Min Cho will face Sam Cup in the boys U16 singles game at the Fiesta Resort & Spa Saipan tennis courts, while also set at Fiesta at the same time was the duel between Sunny Kang and Ki Suk Lee in the boys U14 singles.

Over at Kanoa Resort Court 2, Serin Chung will meet Sei Yui Hong in the girls U14 singles, while on Court 1, the former’s sister, Irin, will square off against Anna Kwon in the girls U12 singles.

Other 5pm matches are Sean Lee versus Malika Miyawaki in the boys U18 singles game at the Pacific Islands Club; Hoo Wang against Hannah Chae in the girls U12 singles at Hyatt Regency Saipan’s Court 2; and Ocean Kang opposite Wataru Kadokura in the boys U12 singles at Hyatt’s Court 1.

Eight more games will be played this Friday with Yutaka Kadokura taking on Takeru Jim in the boys U12 singles and Jae Hoon Son facing Eugene Park and Cory Lee challenging Gang Min Kim in the boys U16 singles.

In the girls U14 singles, Savita Sikkel will meet Helen Kim, while No. 2 seed Jimin Woo will battle Ken Song in the boys U18 singles. In the U10 age group, Jihun Park will slug it out against Ki Won Lee in the boys contest, while Anne Lee will collide with Jeong Bin Park in the girls side.

Games in the junior singles and doubles will continue this Saturday and Sunday, while the adults competition will be held next weekend.
