The Public School System will restore full day sessions at four of eight schools that have been on half-day session since the onslaught of Super Typhoon Yutu over a year ago.

During an interview with Education Commissioner Dr. Alfred Ada last Wednesday, he confirmed that Oleai Elementray School, San Vicente Elementary School, Francisco M. Sablan, and Koblerville Elementary School will return to full-day sessions after the Christmas break and when students return to school on Jan. 6.

Ada said that these schools underwent repairs since the devastation of Super Typhoon Yutu and the repairs are set to be complete or nearly complete come January.

Dandan Middle School, one of the schools that sustained major damagesand had to go into half-day session too, returned to their full session schedule in the first week of December, according to a source.

Kagman High School, Chacha Oceanview Middle School, and William S. Reyes Elementary School, however, will remain on half-day sessions because they sustained the most damage following Yutu.

Ada said that KHS, which initially had electrical issues due to a busted transformer, had deeper underlying issues regarding plumbing. Ada elaborated that the school’s electrical line and water line are close to one another and poses a threat to the students.

Ada is still unsure when the remaining schools will return to full-day sessions.
