Tinian bakery donates to frontliners

A bakery on Tinian has donated to the island’s health care workers and first responders: the Tinian Health Center and the departments of Public Safety and Fire and Emergency Management Services.
Coffee & Bread donated over $100 worth of bakery products to the three agencies. Owner Edwin Sta. Therese, who works as an X-ray technician at THC, said they donated to THC last April 1, to DFEMS last April 2, and to DPS last April 3. He said the donation acknowledges these employees’ work in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic.
While there are no COVID-19 cases on Tinian right now, Sta. Therese said he still appreciates the island’s frontliners in their readiness to combat the pandemic if ever it reaches Tinian’s shores.
“I am also a first responder and it is not easy to be a frontliner,” he said.
Some of the items Coffee & Bread donated are some of the bakery’s bestsellers, including hot pandesal, ensaymada, kalihim, and pudding.
Sta. Therese said Coffee & Bread also made the donation as a responsible member of the island’s business community and as a way of giving back to residents who have been supporting his business.
“It really feels nice to give something back to the community,” said Sta. Therese, adding that he again plans to donate some of his bakery goodies to THC, DFEMS, and DPS this week.
Coffee & Bread opened on Tinian on April 29 last year. and was a realization of a childhood dream for Sta. Therese, who worked as a helper in a bakery when he was just 13 years old.
