Lions Club donates food to 20 families in CK
With many CNMI residents either jobless or furloughed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Lions Clubs International District 204, Region 2 recently gave a treat to families in Chalan Kanoa with a donation of KFC chicken wings.
About 20 families benefited from the donation, according to Region 2 chair Annamae Adaza. “It was nice seeing the families smiling and saying thank you and God bless. …This was our way of giving back to the community,” she said.
Adaza’s daughter, Ramhae Awit, who is a member of the Leo Club, joined the Lions Clubs members in the giving out the KFC chicken wings. She said the time they spend with Lions members guide and teach them about doing community outreach and the value of being of help to the community.
“To see them continue to find ways to help during times like these really shows us how we have to broaden our minds on who we can help in the community,” she said. “It was a great feeling to know that you’ve brightened up someone’s mood just by giving.
“Once you take part in selflessly helping people, other people begin to notice your actions and reciprocate the gesture,” she said.
Awit said she sees her mom as a selfless person. “I’ve tried my best to carry on some of her leadership and service traits to help others,” she said.
Adaza thanked Lions Club zone chair Blanca Imbo of Guam for making the donations possible.
Also earlier this month, the Lions Club helped out 30 families by giving each $35 vouchers to purchase food and other necessities. (Chevy Alipio)
