Learn more about Marianas coral ecosystem
Are you curious about the general health of coral species and ecosystems in our local waters? How about those surrounding our Northern Islands? Has monitoring shown a trend toward improvement, staying the same, or declining?
Coral disease specialist Dr. Bernardo Vargas-Angel, National Marine Fisheries Service Pacific Islands Fisheries Science Center Coral Reef Ecosystem Division’s Benthic Team lead and chief scientist of the current Mariana Archipelago Rapid Assessment and Monitoring Protocol cruise, will be providing a talk at the American Memorial Park Auditorium today, April 15, beginning at 5:30pm.
Vargas-Angel will be providing an update on coral reef observations in the southern islands of the Mariana Archipelago from current and previous MARAMP cruises.
As at all Asia Pacific Academy of Sciences, Science Education, and Environmental Management gatherings, questions from the audience are greatly encouraged. Details on the current voyage and mission are also available at the NOAA website, http://www.pifsc.noaa.gov/cred/.
