1 of 2 who allegedly burglarized govt office is out

The Superior Court granted Tuesday the early release request of one of two men who were arrested for allegedly breaking into a government office in As Perdido.
Superior Court Associate Judge Teresa Kim-Tenorio granted the request of Maynard Dela Cruz to be released to his aunt as his third-party custodian.
Dela Cruz, 29, along with Rollin Ulechong Skang, 20, are accused by the government of burglarizing the Division of Parks and Recreation office in As Perdido.
Dela Cruz, through Chief Public Defender Douglas Hartig, asked the court to reduce his previous cash bail from $20,000 to $5,000. Hartig also requested the court to release Dela Cruz to his aunt after posting 10% of the $5,000 bail. Kim-Tenorio granted the requests and ordered Dela Cruz’s release.
Dela Cruz’s co-defendant, Skang, did not make a similar request and bail modification and remains in jail.
According to Saipan Tribune archives, police received a call on Aug. 17 regarding a burglary and theft of a government office where five brush cutters, a battery pack, a blower, and a container of gas were reported missing.
The Theft Apprehension Select Coalition Task Force of the Department of Public Safety identified Dela Cruz and Skang as the alleged perpetrators of the burglary after an informant gave information about persons selling equipment that had been reported stolen.
Dela Cruz and Skang were both charged with conspiracy, burglary, and theft. Both are scheduled to return to court for an arraignment on Sept. 28 at 9am before Superior Court presiding judge Roberto C. Naraja.
