Man arrested for burglary and theft

Timothy Kapileo

On Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2020, at about 6:30am, the CNMI Department of Public Safety received a 911 call reporting a burglary and theft incident at the Naked Fish restaurant in Garapan, Saipan.

At the scene, police met with the owner of the establishment, who told police that he woke up and noticed a notification from the security system that one of the restaurant’s doors had been opened at about 1am. Upon reviewing the surveillance footage, an individual, later identified as a former employee of the establishment, Timothy Kapileo, was seen walking into the restaurant and placing bottles of liquor into a trash can. Further inventory of the establishment also reviewed that vacuumed packed fish, and alcohol/liquor with an estimated value of about $1,900 were missing.

Police in the area were notified to be on the lookout for Kapileo. Later that day, Kapileo was found in a pavilion at Pau Pau Beach, along with the described items. The owner of the establishment positively identified that the items belonged to the restaurant.

On Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2020, at about 1:54pm, Kapileo was brought before Superior Court Associate Judge Joseph Camacho on the charges of burglary and theft, and the judge set his bail at $25,000. (PR)
