The Pacific Mini Games Organizing Committee has unveiled the Pacific Mini Games 2022 logo, as preparations for the regional event continue.

Designed by Kadi Marshal Yamada Camacho, the logo incorporates a latte stone monolith and “mwaar” (floral head lei) representing the indigenous Chamorro and Carolinian people of the Northern Marianas. Eleven flowers symbolize the 11th edition of the Pacific Mini Games, and three multicolored individuals form a smiling face and represent the diversity and unity of the event. One individual reaching upward “for excellence” is outlined with an outrigger canoe shape, a call to voyaging and the Pacific maritime heritage. Fourteen white spaces symbolize the 14 islands of the Northern Marianas, while a purple wave sits at the base of the logo.

“If the ocean and waves connect the various Pacific islands, this ‘wave element’ supports and connects all island nations participating in this sports event,” Camacho said.

The Pacific Mini Games 2022 will be held on Saipan from July 17 to 25 with 24 countries and territories throughout the Pacific invited to participate.

The Pacific Mini Games 2022 is a multi-sport event governed by the Pacific Games Council and a scaled-down version of the Pacific Games, held every alternating four years.

At this time, an estimated 400-600 athletes are anticipated to participate in six events at the Mini Games: athletics, badminton, baseball, golf, beach volleyball, and triathlon.

“The Northern Marianas looks forward to welcoming all athletes in 2022 for the first Mini Games ever hosted by our islands,” said Pacific Mini Games 2022 Organizing Committee chair Marco Peter.

“For this to come to fruition will be a testament to the strength of our Pacific-wide culture in cooperating, persevering, and pulling each other up during difficult times like these. I’m pleased to report that this kind of community cooperation is what allows the Northern Marianas to assure the athletes that we have one of the lowest rates of coronavirus in the world today. We are working hard to ensure all facilities and events are top-level, and I believe it’s going to be a very successful Mini Games.”

The Mini Games are expected to cost an estimated $3.2 million to host with the six confirmed events. The Pacific Games Council has provided an initial $20,000 in seed money, andfundraising for cash and in-kind support will also be conducted.

Also represented on the organizing committee are the CNMI Office of the Governor, Saipan Mayor’s Office, Dept. of Public Works, Dept. of Public Safety, Public School System, Hotel Association of the Northern Mariana Islands, Dept. of Community and Cultural Affairs, Dept. of Finance, Dept. of Fire & Emergency Medical Services, Commonwealth Health Care Corp. and Governor’s COVID-19 Task Force, Marianas Visitors Authority, and representatives for sports and corporate sponsorship.
