High surf advisory in effect until Saturday

A high surf advisory remains in effect on Saipan, Tinian, and Rota until 7am Saturday, April 24, 2021.
Based on the information received from the National Weather Service in Guam and compiled at the CNMI Emergency Operations Center State Warning Point, hazardous surf of 7 to 9 feet and dangerous rip currents will be present in south and west facing reefs of Saipan, Tinian, and Rota until 7am Saturday.
This will create dangerous swimming and surfing conditions and localized beach erosion.
Residents of Saipan, Tinian, and Rota are advised to avoid venturing near south and west facing reefs. Inexperienced swimmers should remain out of the water due to dangerous surf conditions. (PR)

MVA temporary office hours

5.1-magnitude quake in Marianas region

At 10:23am on April 16, 2021, a report of a 5.1-magnitude earthquake occurred at 17.874°N 147.226°E in the Mariana Islands region. Currently, there are no tsunami warnings or advisories that were issued by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center. For more information, contact the CNMI EOC State Warning Point at 237-8000. (PR)

5.3-magnitude quake in Marianas region

At 11:27am on April 17, 2021, a report of a 5.3-magnitude earthquake occurred at 21.511°N 145.975°E in the Mariana Islands region. At 2:44pm on April 15, 2021, a report of a 5.3 magnitude earthquake occurred at 12.376°N 141.593°E in the Mariana Islands region. Military trainings set

ASAN, Guam—The U.S. Navy will conduct training in Radio Barrigada and Dandan-Malojloj on April 19-22 from 9am to 11:55am. Residents in surrounding areas should not be alarmed if they see or hear increased activity due to the training. 

The U.S. Navy will conduct training in Agat Bay and Outer Apra Harbor on April 19-22 from 9am to 11:55am. Blank ammunition will be utilized for this training. Residents in surrounding areas should not be alarmed if they hear or see increased activity. 

The U.S. Navy will conduct live fire exercises in open ocean on April 19-22 from 9am to 11:55am at the following coordinates: 13˚26”N/145˚08”E, 13˚42”N/144˚36”E. Marine vessels are advised to remain clear of the area for the duration of the event and to monitor the U.S. Coast Guard broadcast Notice to Mariners for advisories.

The U.S. Coast Guard will conduct live fire exercises in open ocean on April 21 from 10am to 4am at the following coordinates: 13˚07.2″N/ 144˚34 65″E, 13˚07.2″N/ 144˚40.85″E, 13˚01.5″N/ 144˚34.65″E, 13˚01.5″N/144˚40.85″E, 13˚07.2″N/ 144˚36.8″E, 13˚07.2″N/ 144˚38.8″E, 13˚09.2″N/144˚36.8″E, 13˚09.2″N/ 144˚38.8″E. The public is advised to remain clear of the areas for the duration of the event and to monitor the U.S. Coast Guard broadcast Notice to Mariners for advisories.

These trainings support readiness and are critical to developing the skills needed to respond to operational missions throughout the region to ensure a stable, free, and open Indo-Pacific. (PR)
