Dead woman found in Marpi
A woman’s lifeless body was found near the former Mariana Resort & Spa last Tuesday evening and the Department of Public Safety is still investigating what happened to the young woman. Family and friends, however, claim it was a hit-and-run. (KIMBERLY B. ESMORES)
A woman was found dead along Route 30 in Marpi Tuesday evening, with no immediate word from the police on what killed her.
According to Department of Public Safety spokesperson Dre Pangelinan, DPS responded around 9:52pm last Tuesday to a report about an unresponsive individual lying on the shoulder of Route 30 in Marpi, just north of the former Mariana Resort & Spa.
DPS is temporarily withholding the identity of the individual “out of respect for the family during this emotional time.”
The case exploded on social media, with many posting the alleged victim’s name and pictures, but Saipan Tribune will be awaiting word from DPS to make the official identification.
Saipan Tribune learned from a source, though, that the one who called the police, who lives nearby, was driving home at around 9pm when he noticed a body along the road. The caller immediately stopped to help and called police for assistance.
At the scene, police noticed tire marks near where the woman had been found.
The police report stated that Department of Fire and Emergency Medical Services responders transported the woman to the Commonwealth Health Center where she was pronounced dead at 1am.
According to DPS, the incident remains under investigation. As of press time, DPS could not disclose yet the cause of the female’s death.
However, according to family members and friends who took to social media to share their knowledge of the incident, they claim that the female was a victim of a fatal hit-and-run.
According a report from DFEMS, at around 10pm, the department was called to respond to a report about an individual that was not breathing and was without a pulse in Marpi.
Medic 2 and Engine 2 were immediately dispatched from Station 2 in Garapan and arrived at the scene at 10:09pm.
At the scene, firefighters immediately started assessing the woman’s injuries. The firefighters reported that she was lifeless and they observed multiple lacerations and deformities to her body. In addition, the officers also noticed that she sustained multiple fractures and severe injuries to her head.
DFEMS transported the victim to CHC at 11:45pm where she was pronounced dead at 1am by Dr. Bryan Strickland.
