With a little over a week before the start of the King of the Diamond Labor Day Softball Tournament, Roil Soil Marketing is calling on all interested teams to sign up for the competition.

Roil Soil Marketing owner Shayne Villanueva said so far 15 teams have thrown their hats inside the ring and only 15 slots remain for the tournament set from Aug. 29 to Sept. 6 at the Capitol Hill Ballfield. He earlier said that the tournament will have slots for 30 teams and entries will be determined in a first-come, first-served basis.

“We appreciate all the participants and teams who have already signed up. They are prepared to put on a show for the King of the Diamond tournament. A mix of new and old teams are excited to be playing at a high level of field play and utilizing official American Softball Association Rules (modified ASA 2021),” said Villanueva.

Aside from the actual softball games, a home run derby and a cornhole tournament will also be held. According to the internet, cornhole is a lawn game wherein players take turns throwing 16-ounce bags of corn kernels at a raised board with a hole in the far end. A bag in the hole scores 3 points, while one on the board scores 1 point. Play continues until a team or player reaches or exceeds the score of 21.

“We are inviting registrants who enjoy cornhole or want to learn about the game to register at the Capitol Hill Ballfield between Aug. 29-30. Budweiser will be putting up some nice in-kind prizes for this and the home run derby,” said Villanueva.

Prizes for the tournament are nothing to sneeze at as first place is $1,000 plus a set of 12 uniforms, second place is $750, third place is $500, and fourth place is $350.

“We invite the CNMI to come and support and enjoy the festivities. We will have food and drinks on the grounds and everyone is welcome to come and barbecue!” he said.

Entry fee is $350 and the King of the Diamond Labor Day Softball Tournament in sponsored by Budweiser, AllStar Sporting Goods, Power 99, and Marianas Variety.

Deadline to register for the King of the Diamond Labor Day Softball Tournament has been extended to Friday, Aug. 20. For more information, call Ikluk Masayos at 287-7979 or Villanueva at 285-4269.
