Edith E. DeLeon Guerrero

Senator Edith E. DeLeon Guerrero (D-Saipan) introduced yesterday a bill that seeks to waive the repayment of the scholarship of those who have completed their degree program as well as those who were unable to complete their degree program.

DeLeon Guerrero’s Senate Bill 22-70 proposes to waive the repayment requirements of the CNMI Scholarship memorandum of agreement/promissory note.

The senator stated in the bill that the CNMI Scholarship policy, through a MOA/promissory note, requires the scholarship recipient to work for a Commonwealth employer within 90 days after the termination or completion of the degree plan.

She said if the requirement is not fulfilled, then the recipient is required to pay the entire amount of the scholarship or loan received.

DeLeon Guerrero said the CNMI Scholarship recipients need assistance to alleviate their dilemma of finding jobs when they return and those who are unable to complete their education plan yet they must pay the scholarship they received.
