Longuski

Veteran runner Keith Longuski and student-athlete Kaithlyn Chavez won the 10K run of the Saipan Marathon 2022 that took 113 participants a straight shot run from the starting line at the Hyatt Regency Saipan to the Ladera Building in Oleai and back last Saturday.

Longuski, a physician assistant who now works at the Kagman Health Center, completed the course in a time of 40:06. He was followed by Marianas High School student and Park University soccer commit Dev Bachani in 40:38. Northern Mariana Islands Football Association technical director Michiteru Mita completed the Top 3 after crossing the finish line in 45:19.

Overall last Saturday’s 10K run couldn’t have been more perfect, according to Longuski.

“It was a beautiful run and it was pretty well organized and I think we had 307 people out there. The weather cooperated and there was no sun and a little breeze and it was a beautiful run along Beach Road,” he said.

The Former NAIA Division track athlete for, coincidentally, Park University has won the 10K run in Marianas Visitors Authority’s “Festival of Runs” a grand total of four times now, including last Saturday’s win.

Chavez

Chavez, for her part, beat out fellow CNMI National Triathlon Team member Heather Brook in a sprint to the finish line in the women’s division of the 10K. The Saipan International School student tore the tape in 46:54, a mere five seconds off Brook’s time of 46:59. Lydia Tan came in third after clocking in at 54:52.

“It was pretty windy. I took on the 10K because I wanted to challenge myself and I’m trying to get a faster time…Honestly. I didn’t have much training because I’m really busy with soccer and I just came back from Guam,” said Chavez after the race.

The results of the 5K run of the 2022 edition of the Saipan Marathon as well as the age group winners of the half marathon, 10K, and 5K will be reported in the coming issues of Saipan Tribune.

The Saipan Marathon 2022 is a signature event of MVA and was organized with help from Northern Marianas Athletics.
