Man arrested for alleged possession of stolen firearm and disturbing the peace

A man was arrested on Rota last week after two children reported seeing him with a gun tucked in his pants at the Sinapalo Safeway store area.
The suspect in the case, Ikbal Bepari, was charged with possession of a stolen firearm and disturbing the peace. Superior Court Associate Judge Joseph Camacho set Bipari’s bail at $10,000. Camacho appeared at the hearing via video conference.
However, based on stipulation, or an agreement between the prosecutor and public defender, Bepari shall be released from custody. Bepari waived his right to a preliminary hearing and will next appear in court on June 24 at 9am.
According to court documents, Ali Bepari called the police on May 4, around 9:17pm, to report that “two kids informed him that they saw [Ikbal] Bepari by the Sinapalo Safeway store area with a gun tucked in the backside of his pants. The two children reported to Ali that they feared for their safety.”
Officers then searched around the Sinapalo Safeway store area but did not find Ikbal Bepari.
Afterwards, they met again with Ali Bepari, who identified the two children who told him about the suspect having a gun. Ali Bepari also reported that the suspect is his nephew and that he saw him standing outside his house, which he pointed out to the officers.
It was learned during an interview with the two children that they allegedly saw a pistol grip sticking out from the back side of the suspect’s pants, so they immediately left the area.
That night the suspect was still not located, but officers were informed of a sighting of the suspect in the early morning of May 5. Ikbal Bepari was eventually caught by police near an abandoned house and was brought to the Department of Public Safety where he was booked.
Officers also allegedly found in the area where Ikbal Bepari was caught and found a black Glock 22 pistol with one .40-caliber round in the chamber that was found to be a match to a stolen gun.
