The Tan Sui Lin Foundation is supporting the 38th Saipan International Fishing Tournament that will be held this Saturday.
The TSL Foundation has donated $2,250 to tournament organizer Saipan Fishermen’s Association for prizes for the mahi category of the annual competition. TSL Foundation executive director Merlie Tolentino turned over the donation to SFA officials led by vice president Scott Shular during a brief ceremony last Tuesday at the conference room of Tan Holdings in Beach Road.

“The Tan Sui Lin Foundation and Tan Holdings have consistently supported SFA and our tournaments for years and their assistance has allowed us to host multiple events for our fishermen. We are grateful to have them on board again for the 38th Saipan International Fishing Tournament and look forward to their continued support,” Shular said.

Shular added that they are expecting to have more than 40 boats for this weekend’s competition, including those coming from Guam. Besides the mahi category, the 38th Saipan International Fishing Tournament will also award prizes to the Top 3 in the yellow fin, wahoo, and skipjack divisions. The highlight of the competition is the billfish category, while organizers will also pick a winner in the total weight class.

Da’Net’s 358-lb marlin won the bill fish category last year, while Villia Marie’s 305-lb catch took the top honors in the total weight. In the mahi category, Regulator’s 24.7-lb catch topped the event, while other category first place winners were Santa Soledad (9.4-lb skipjack), J&MJ (32.2-lb wahoo), and Celilio and Capono (67-lb wahoo).

“We congratulate SFA for putting together this event for our fishermen and we wish all boat captains and anglers a safe and bountiful day on the waters this Saturday,” Tolentino said. (PR)
