Newly formed Scoutz Youth Baseball will be holding a fundraising softball tournament starting this weekend at the Capitol Hill Baseball Field.
Tournament coordinator Rayna Sablan said money raised from the CNMI Youth Baseball Team Fundraiser will be used to support the team’s trip to Guam.
Scoutz Youth Baseball will take part in the Labor Day Marianas Softball Tournament set from Sept. 2 to 5.
“The team’s manager Jerome Delos Santos was invited by Mr. [University of Guam baseball team head coach] Roke Alcantara Jr. for a friendly between both teams. We are looking to host the [fundraising] event here to include Guam and make this an annual event for the Marianas youth by inviting teams from Rota and Tinian. Future goals for this annual friendship tournament is to expand to other micronesia states to include Palau and the Federated States of Micronesia,” she said. Scoutz Youth Baseball hopes to raise $4,000 with a full 20-team sign up for the fundraising softball tilt.
So far, the tournament is halfway through its goal with 12 teams already confirming their participation, namely YaoYao, Kemeliz, Homies, Clique, No Excuses, TokáHåo, Scoutz 1, Scoutz 2, Dat’s It, Lock Down, Red Men, and Regulators.
“We are still open and will cap at 20 teams total for a double-elimination [format],” said Sablan.
Games schedule is from Aug. 12 to 15 and Aug. 17 to 19 with the possibility of a home run derby on Aug. 21. Weekday games will be 6pm-10pm and weekend games will be 8am-10pm (subject to change due to unforeseen weather).
The fundraising softball tournament has a three-tiered sponsorship plan.
Those who have already signed up for gold sponsorship are the Rotaract Club of Saipan and McDonald’s of Saipan & Guam. Those in the silver level are Latte Built Saipan and Grace “Pitu” Sablan, while Gold’s Gym Saipan and Poki-Yaki have signed up for bronze sponsorship.
“We’re inviting all lovers of the game to come on down as we have a vendor sponsor: Saipan Isla Shave Ice. We’re encouraging this to be a family friend event and are open to having more vendors join in on the fun,” said Sablan.
