Events calendar for 2023 Pacific Games released

The Games Organizing Committee for the upcoming 2023 Pacific Games in the Solomons has released the schedule for all 24 events that will be held in the quadrennial event starting in November.

The GOC said 11 venues have been tapped to accommodate the 24 sports competitions during the two-week duration of the Games.

The schedule also included the start and finish dates for these competitions.

According to GOC, football, basketball, volleyball, tennis, and table tennis will kick off this year’s Games, with their competitions starting on Nov. 19, two days before the Solomon Pacific Games official opening ceremony on Nov. 19.

Weightlifting, swimming, sailing, rugby league 9, golf, and judo will commence their competitions starting a day after the opening ceremony on Nov. 20. with the latter being the first to conclude and hand out medals the following day, Nov. 21.

Nov. 21 will also see the start of the archery competition.

The rugby league 9 competition will conclude on Nov. 22, while Nov. 23 will see the start of karate and rugby 7s competitions.

Weightlifting, karate, and swimming conclude their competitions on Nov. 24.
Basketball, volleyball, golf, rugby 7s, and table tennis conclude their events on Nov. 25, while also coinciding is the daylong open water swimming competition—all of which wrap up Week 1 of the Pacific Games.

Nov. 26, as customary in that part of the region, is a rest day for all athletes and sports.
The much-anticipated athletics competition kick-starts Week 2 of the Pacific Games on Nov. 27 along with netball, boxing, bodybuilding, rugby touch, va’a, and kayaking competitions.

Beach volleyball, hockey, powerlifting, and taekwondo kick off competitions on Nov. 28, while Nov. 29 will see the start of the triathlon competition.

Basketball 3×3 begins its competitions on Nov. 30, which also sees the conclusion of the powerlifting event.

Athletics, boxing, and taekwondo conclude their competitions on Dec. 1.

Events that will wrap up on Dec. 2, which is the final day of the 2023 Pacific Games are football, hockey, netball, rugby touch, sailing, tennis, triathlon, va’a, and kayaking on tap.

The closing ceremony will bring down the curtains to the 2023 Pacific Games in the Solomons on the evening of Dec. 2. (www.sol2023.com)
