The shipping container that serves as the equipment storage of the Northern Marianas Athletics at the Oleai Sports Complex was vandalized over the weekend and the sports federation wants the public’s help to find the perpetrators.

“We are deeply disheartened to inform you about a recent act of vandalism that occurred at our track and field equipment container. Our container, which holds the tools and equipment that fuel our passion for athletics, has been maliciously targeted by vandals,” NMA said in a social media post.

The federation, which recently successfully hosted the 2023 Oceania Cup and Oceania Masters Championships, said the act not only damaged their equipment but also undermined the spirit of sportsmanship and unity that they hold dear.

“Northern Marianas Athletics is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting and supporting athletics within our community. We rely on the generosity of individuals like you to continue our mission of providing access to the sport and fostering a positive environment.”

NMA is thus kindly requesting the community’s assistance in identifying those responsible for the senseless act.

“If you have any information regarding the individuals involved or any leads that may aid us in resolving this crime, we implore you to reach out to us immediately. Together, we can hold the culprits accountable and restore our container to its former state. Acts of vandalism pose a threat to our shared spaces, and it is vital that we unite against them. If you possess any information, regardless of how insignificant it may seem, please contact us or the Department of Public Safety. We assure you that your identity will remain anonymous, and your assistance will be greatly valued.”

For leads, contact NMA secretary general Robin Sapong at rsapong@gmail.com or text or call (670) 788 0929 or the Department of Public Safety CNMI Crime Stoppers hotline at (670) 234-7272.
