BARRIGADA, Guam—Cathy Gogue was recently appointed State Chair of the Guam-Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands Committee, Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve.

Gogue is the seventh chair to serve since 1997 and the first woman chair to lead the organization in Guam andthe CNMI. Gogue will assume her three-year position beginning Oct. 1 2023.

Her appointment was confirmed by U.S. Navy Captain Jonathan R. Townsend, executive director, ESGR Headquarters, Alexandria, VA.

Gogue will take helm from retired U.S. Army Lt. Col. Renie Llaneta, who served as state chair since 2021. As chair, she will oversee ESGR activities and its mission to foster a culture where employers support and value the military service of the Reserve Component employees. Gogue will lead the committee to serve as the principal means of communication between the Department of Defense, employers, RC Service members and the local community. She will be responsible for promoting the cooperation and understanding between employers and their Service member employees by advocating relevant initiatives, recognizing outstanding employer support of our National Guard and Reserve, and increasing awareness of applicable laws that protect the rights and entitlements of Service member employees.

ESGR, a Department of Defense office, was established in 1972 to promote cooperation and understanding between Reserve Component Service members and their civilian employers and to assist in the resolution of conflicts arising from an employee’s military commitment. ESGR is supported by a network of nearly 3,000 volunteers in 54 committees located across all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Guam-CNMI (Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands), Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Gogue is the administrative director of the Guam Public Defender Service Corporation, and a current board member of Guam’s Professional Engineers, Architects and Land Surveyors. She has been part of the ESGR committee since 2012 serving as a Public Affairs Director and Employer Outreach Director.
