Dry weather ahead for the Marianas
Despite a relatively wetter weather during the past few days, the National Weather Service in Guam says the Marianas can expect drier weather throughout the rest of the week.
According to NWS’ regional weather outlook, a dry-season pattern will persist across the Marianas with moderate trades, mostly sunny skies and only a few light showers in the coming days.
In addition, NWS says combined seas will hover around 5 to 8 feet across the region with a moderate risk of rip currents along north and east exposures and beaches.
Meanwhile, NWS says trades, seas, and surf will increase this weekend as a disturbance passes to the south through Micronesia.
NWS reports that fair weather also remains present across Yap and Palau, with gentle to moderate trades and only a few showers.
“Showers and thunderstorms will begin to move in late this weekend, with winds becoming moderate to fresh early in the week as a disturbance approaches from the east,” said NWS.
As for Pohnpei and Chuuk, tropical disturbance Invest 90W is generating showers, thunderstorms, and areas of gusty winds across Pohnpei State.
“90W will be the primary weather feature this week as it slowly heads westward, possibly passing near or just south of Chuuk by Saturday. Focus on the impacts the next few days: periods of showers, locally heavy at times, thunderstorms and brief gusty winds,” said NWS.
Farther east, trade winds will surge across the Marshall Islands and Kosrae, the regional overview states.
“A showery pattern is in place over Kosrae while drier conditions are near and north of Majuro. Expect a breezy week ahead with fresh trades across both locations. Trades will ease up this weekend at Kosrae. At Majuro, seas may approach the hazardous levels of 10 feet in the coming days. A small craft advisory will be issued if/when seas reach 10 feet or more,” said NWS.
