Former Commerce chief Dela Cruz nominated to MPLT board

Acting governor David M. Apatang has nominated former Department of Commerce secretary Pedro Q. Dela Cruz to serve as a member of the Marianas Public Land Trust board of trustees.

If confirmed by the Senate, Dela Cruz will represent Rota and will serve the unexpired term of Vianney B. Hocog, which will expire on Jan. 9, 2028.

Apatang informed Senate President Edith E. DeLeon Guerrero (D-Saipan) on Thursday that he and Gov. Arnold I. Palacios have complete confidence in Dela Cruz’s ability to devote his time and efforts to the best interests of the people.

“We believe that his membership on this board is essential to ensure consistency and continuity in fulfilling the goals and objectives of the Marianas Public Land Trust,” the acting governor said.

Apatang also told Dela Cruz that he and Palacios are confident that he is qualified and will be an asset to the MPLT board.

Dela Cruz also served before as vice chair for the NMI Retirement Fund board of trustees.
