Lorraine Babauta wins January tourney
Lorraine Babauta won the CNMI Women’s Golf Association monthly tournament last Jan. 13 at the Kingfisher Golf Links in Talafofo.
The government retiree shot a gross score of 90 following a 40 in the front nine and a 50 in the back nine for a January tournament-best net 78.
“It was the start of the new year. I basically just had the mindset to go out play and enjoy the day,” said Babauta.
The San Vicente resident said the weather was ideal for playing golf last Saturday.
“I tip my hat off to the Kingfisher crew. The course was nicely kept and had fun playing. I dedicate the win to CWGA ladies, they make playing fun,” she said.
Janet Torres finished second in the January tilt with a net score that actually tied Babauta’s 78 (90, 46-44), but lost via scorecard tiebreak. Third place went to Jang Eun Ae with her net score of 79 (95, 45-50).
A total of eight CWGA members played in the January tournament and they are the following with their net score in parenthesis: Yuko Togawa (80), Sae Hee Kim (80), Dol Yamagishi (82), Chang Eun Ae (83), and Flor Jones (90).
