SSHS JV slips past Tinian JV; MHS Yellow win 2 in a row
Saipan Southern High School JV slipped past Tinian Jr./Sr. High School JV, 28-27, last Saturday in the 2023-2024 IT&E Interscholastic Boys High School Basketball League at the Marianas High School Gymnasium.
Meanwhile, MHS Yellow won two in a row, with their recent win last Saturday against Kagman High School JV, 21-19. Last Friday, they won over Tinian Jr./Sr. High School JV, 36-12.
In the Manta Rays vs. Stallions’ game, the Manta Rays made it to comeback city as they won by one point over the Stallions who held the lead throughout most of the game.
SSHS JV pulled out all the stops toward the end of the game and rang in all foul shots they could take. They played the small ball as their accuracy at the free throw line proved pivotal—and despite the pressure, won them the game.
John Lucero shot the game winning free throw and earned them their second win of the season. He ended up with 5 points, while Danny Defang scored 6, and Marino Santos put up 8.
The Stallions’ Edmar Tirona led the team with 10 points as he worked the outside perimeter. Paolo Roldan had his back with 6 points, but it wasn’t enough to keep the Mantas at bay.
In the Dolphins vs. Ayuyus game, it was another close one as both teams were evenly matched. The Dolphins just came from a win the day before and continued to ride on their momentum against the Ayuyus.
Rouvick Quizon and MJay Capalad scored the crucial free throws in the final minutes and held on to win their second straight game.
The Ayuyus had a strong start with a great passing game and led by 1 point at the end of the first half. But, the Dolphins Joseph Paraiso and Quizon made a sharp-shooting duo in the second half to have a slight advantage over the Ayuyus.
In the end, Capalad scored 8 and Quizon put up 6, while KHS’ Bruce Tasi, Jarrod Muna, and Jerricho Pangelinan had 4 markers apiece.
