Meeting this Saturday discussing youth baseball
The Natibu Sports Association is hosting a meeting for coaches and stakeholders this Saturday, Feb. 10, 10am, at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium pavilion to discuss youth baseball.
Those interested in coaching or managing a youth baseball team, and those wanting to make an impact in the youth baseball program are welcome to share their ideas and suggestions at the meeting.
George Camacho, a member of NSA, said that since there’s currently no Little League baseball program, if there is enough interest and teams for a youth baseball league, it could potentially kickstart a season.
The NSA is a nonprofit organization who coordinate athletic activities such as baseball, T-Ball, basketball, volleyball, and other community projects such as beach clean ups.
According to the NSA, it has adopted the motto of “Cover Home, Anti-Crime Attitude!”
In baseball, cover home means that players have to make sure that they protect home plate from any runs coming in. NSA has taken that concept and applied it to its programs. “We want to “Cover Home” or defend our community against alcohol, drugs, violence, and crime from coming into our homes. In many of these events we also invite and involve parents as well as other community members as they are essential stakeholders in our efforts,” said NSA.
The NSA was officially formed as a nonprofit organization in 2009. Natibu means native in the Chamorro language, with the group’s name stemming from the CNMI’s native people giving back to the community.
