3 sponsor Wacky Awards at Saipan Marathon

Not that fast, but super weird? You still have a chance to win sporting goods gift certificates in the Saipan Marathon 2024 Wacky Awards on March 9, 2024, in the Marianas. The Wacky Awards are sponsored by The Athlete’s Foot, Boarderline, and All-Star Sporting Goods.

Saipan Marathon—a certified measured course by World Athletics, in cooperation with the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races—is offering up awards for Best Costume, Best Body Paint, Shortest Shorts, Most Awesome Shoes, Ugliest Shoes, and Craziest Hair.

“Our Wacky Awards are all in the spirit of fun, which is always a big part of what marathons around the world,” said Marianas Visitors Authority managing director Christopher A. Concepcion. “Judges will be standing by at the 5K turnaround, so participants, bring your creativity and your crazy!”

Saipan Marathon is organized by the MVA and Northern Marianas Athletics and is sanctioned under the Northern Marianas Athletics rules and regulations.

Skechers is the Exclusive Title Sponsor of the race. Other marathon sponsors are Gold Sponsors Bridge Capital, IT&E, and Triple J Saipan; Silver Sponsors United Airlines, Matson, The Athlete’s Foot, Boarderline and All-Star Sporting Goods; Hotel Association of the Northern Mariana Islands; Northern Marianas Athletics; and Bike Pro.

Over 350 runners have registered for either the full marathon, half-marathon, 10K or 5K, which will all begin and end at American Memorial Park in downtown Garapan.

Registration is open at www.raceroster.com and is $110 for the full marathon and $80 for the half marathon, 10K, and 5K. Full marathon participants must be age 18 or older. Half marathon participants must be age 14 or older. With valid photo ID, students ages 18 or younger may register for $60. Registration will close at 5pm ChST on March 7, 2024, and mandatory race packet pickup will be on March 8 from 4pm to 6pm at American Memorial Park Amphitheatre in Garapan, Saipan.

A new course highlighting iconic sites from the Marianas’ rich history awaits full marathon runners. The road race will traverse sites from the various eras of Marianas history, including pre-history, the Spanish administration, the Japanese administration in the early 1900s, World War II, and modern history as a U.S. Commonwealth.

Cash prizes will be awarded for top finishers and by age division in the marathon. Participants will receive a Limited Edition Official Saipan Marathon T-shirt, official Saipan Marathon medal, Certificate of Completion and one entry to the awards banquet on March 9 at Hyatt Regency Saipan.
