Local women vets, soldiers join Radewagen in thanking USCG’s Fagan for A. Samoa visit
PAGO PAGO, American Samoa—Delegate Uifa’atali Amata Radewagen (R-A. Samoa) was joined Wednesday by local women veterans and some of American Samoa’s women U.S. Army Reservists to thank U.S. Coast Guard commandant Adm. Linda Fagan, and send her off feeling especially welcomed by American Samoa. They had the opportunity to speak with and greet Fagan before her flight departed, and receive the report from the 118th Congress’s Women Veterans Task Force, which Amata chaired.
“I am so pleased some of our local women veterans, military or ROTC, had this opportunity to meet Adm. Fagan, since the Coast Guard commandant is the first woman in American history to lead a military service, and our veterans and military families have such a prominent role here in American Samoa,” said Radewagen. “Our people enlist at very high rates and are represented already in each of the military services, but I envision in future years a higher percentage than now of our veterans will have served in the Coast Guard, perhaps even being based right here at Pago Pago Harbor. I especially appreciate Adm. Fagan taking the time to speak to our women veterans and soldiers, as she honored them for their service, and said she enjoyed and appreciated her time in American Samoa.” (PR)
