Saipan and Northern Islands Municipal Council assumes Saipan acting mayor post
The Saipan and Northern Islands Municipal Council has assumed the post of the Saipan Mayor’s Office for the seventh time this month from last year.
By law, whenever the mayor of Saipan or the mayor of the Northern Islands is to be physically absent from the Third Senatorial District, the mayor must appoint a duly elected or appointed presiding officer of the Saipan and Northern Islands Municipal Counci to be acting mayor.
The Saipan council has taken charge of the post in June, July, November and December last year.
The mayor’s last travel was to the U.S. mainland in February this year.
This month the mayor travelled on March 10-13, and, again, on March 18-21, effective triggering the assumption by the council of the mayor’s post until the mayor returns to Saipan from his third off island travel this year, and his seventh since taking office in January 2023. (PR)
