‘Suspect in MHS sex assault case advised not to talk to investigators’

The sexual assault case involving a Marianas High School student and teacher remains under investigation, with the teacher already retaining a lawyer that advised him not to communicate with investigators.

During a press conference with acting Department of Public Safety commissioner Anthony Macaranas last Friday, he shared some updates in the ongoing sexual assault investigation, saying the person of interest in the case, previously identified as a teacher by the Public School System, has retained counsel and has been advised not to speak with investigators.

No arrest has been made yet in the case.

“Due to the ongoing investigation of the incident, we are currently unable to provide any further information. The person of interest in the investigation has retained legal counsel and has been advised not to communicate with our investigator. The investigator is waiting for a response from the person of interest’s counsel regarding a time and date for the interview. As previously stated, this case is still active and we will provide an update once we have more information,” he said.

DPS previously shared that it received a call last Jan. 9 about a sexual assault of a minor incident at the MHS campus.

According to DPS, officers learned that a faculty member had been seen kissing a student on campus grounds.
