Andres Camacho wins MMA fight in Crown Fighting Championship 12
Andres “Tanapag Beach Bad Boy” Camacho won his amateur bantamweight matchup in Crown Fighting Championship 12 MMA event held in Hurricane, Utah last Feb. 24.
In the first fight of the night, Camacho, pummeled Nevada’s Javier Reyes and won via decision, 29-27, 29-28, 29-27, after three full rounds.
Camacho opened up the bout with leg kicks that left Reyes unbalanced right away. A few punches were exchanged and Camacho connected another big kick—this time to Reyes’ head.
Reyes landed a few punches as Camacho tried to find more openings—then Camacho was swept off his feet for a few seconds from a head kick that connected on the left side.
The seconds wound down in the first round and Camacho’s pace began to pick up as Reyes’ adrenaline wore off. Camacho connected a few jab combos and a high kick that left Reyes wobbling at the knees with less than a minute left.
Reyes tried to stay alive and grabbed a hold of Camacho to catch his breath to let the seconds pass before Camacho unleashed another flurry of punches as the round ended.
Round 2 opened up even more explosively as the first and both fighters exchanged clips at the other’s head and body. Camacho got Reyes on the ground from a strong left cross and began to batter Reyes’ face and pin him down. Camacho couldn’t capitalize and end the fight right there though as Reyes held on despite blow after blow on his face.
By the final round, both fighters were exhausted and it showed. The match could’ve been called either way at this point. About more than a minute in, a good overhand right clip thrown by landed Camacho on his back. Reyes then returned the favor on the ground as he tried to get his punches in while Camacho defended.
In the end though, Camacho controlled most of the fight and landed more vicious blows that left Reyes more bloodied and cut up than Camacho.
The U.S. Marine now based in Hawaii said of his competition, “I had a great experience being able to use my kicks again as opposed to the boxing match I had for the Ring of Fire. Strategy was to fight long, don’t force anything.”
As to what’s next, the 24-year-old said the Bareknuckle FC event might be coming to Hawaii in June, so he might fight in that.
According to tapology.com, Camacho’s amateur MMA record is 1-2-0. Regionally, Camacho is ranked 10th of 16 active Hawaii Amateur Bantamweights.
Last December, Camacho made a long-awaited return back home to Saipan and competed in the Trench Warz Promotions’ “Ring of Fire” boxing and kickboxing event.
Camacho was the main event bout against Guam Muay Thai’s Jake Albert, where the “Tanapag Beach Bad Boy” won via split decision scoring.
