April is Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention and Awareness Month
The Division of Youth Service-Child Protective Services is proud to declare April 2024 as Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention and Awareness Month. This monthlong observance is dedicated to raising awareness and preventing child abuse and neglect across the islands, aligning with the national theme for this year, “Building Together: Prevention in Partnership.”
The national theme, which CPS embraces locally, focuses on empowering individuals and communities to make a significant impact in the lives of children, ensuring they have the safe, stable and nurturing environments they need for healthy development and a brighter future.
CPS is excited to announce a series of events designed to educate, engage and empower the community in the fight against child abuse and neglect.
Highlighting the division’s calendar is the annual DYS Family Fun Day on May 4, 2024. This event promises a day filled with activities, entertainment and educational resources for families, emphasizing the importance of positive parenting and community support.
This year will have the first-ever “Strike Out Child Abuse Co-ed Softball Tournament.” This inaugural event aims to bring the community together through the spirit of competition, raising awareness and funds for child abuse prevention initiatives. More details on the tournament will be shared in the coming weeks.
CPS calls upon all community members, organizations and businesses to join in these efforts. Whether through participating in our events, spreading the word, or making a donation, your support is crucial in our fight against child abuse and neglect.
Stay tuned for more information on our upcoming events and how you can get involved. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of our CNMI children and families, ensuring they grow up in a community that cares, protects and supports their well-being.
