21 theft cases reported last week
Last week alone, a total of 21 theft cases were recorded in the Department of Public Safety’s police blotter—essentially a daily record of events compiled into a weekly report.
This was learned from DPS spokesperson Fred Sato, who said that, as part of DPS’ goals, it has brought back weekly police blotter reports that will be shared with the community.

“I think it’s important for the public to know what our officers are doing on a daily basis,” said Sato.
Sato added that the numbers provided based on the blotter reports are calls made to DPS and response of its officers.
“All active criminal complaints are taken, then forwarded to our Criminal Investigation Bureau. All traffic-related incidents, including fatality reported crashes, are forwarded to our Highway Patrol Investigation units,” he said.
Based on the police blotter report dated March 3 to 9, DPS received over 100 reports of different criminal incidences in the last week, including assault, theft, criminal trespassing, burglary, child abuse, sexual assault, and more. The same report showed that DPS received 21 calls reporting thefts. However, only one of the 21 calls led to an arrest.
Meanwhile, DPS received 52 disturbing-the-peace calls and made six arrests.
As for assault, assault and battery, and assault with a dangerous weapon reports, DPS has received 13 and made two arrests for assault with a dangerous weapon.
DPS received 25 reports of different traffic incidences. DPS received a total of seven car crash reports, one reckless driving report, two driving under the influence reports, and two vehicle theft reports.
There were no arrests made following the traffic reports.
