Over $150K in prizes up for grabs in 19th NMC Golf Open

Don’t miss out on amazing prizes worth over $150,000 at the Northern Marianas College Foundation’s 19th NMC Golf Open set for Saturday, March 23, and Sunday, March 24, at the LaoLao Bay Golf & Resort.

In a press conference held yesterday at the NMC Board of Regents Conference Room, NMC president Dr. Galvin Deleon Guerrero and NMC Foundation chair Vicente “Ben” Babauta invited golfers to join in on the foundation’s signature event. Currently there are local golfers as well as from Tinian and Rota, golfers from Guam, and golfers from South Korea.

It’s a two-day event with a fee of $250, inclusive of golf, banquet, beverages for both days, ditty bags, and other items.

Play will take place on the East and West Courses of the LaoLao Bay Golf and Resort. The awards banquet will be during lunch after the last day of play at the LaoLao Bay Golf & Resort’s restaurant. The deadline to register is on Friday, March 22, at 12pm.

There are six flights, with $800 for first-place winners in the Men’s Championship, A, B, C, Senior, and Ladies flights. Second-place finishers will receive $500, and third-place finishers will receive $300.

Hole-in-one prizes are worth thousands of dollars, such as a brand new 2024 Lexus RX350 from Atkins Kroll Saipan, a brand new 2023 Honda Civic Type R from Joeten Motors, $10,000 shopping spree at Top Shelf Wine and Spirits, $10,000 from Ambyth Shipping and Seafix Inc., and $5,000 from Pacifica Insurance.

Along with all these, there are also raffle prizes up for grabs.

Currently, there are 83 sponsors and donors of the NMC Golf Open, and is open to any support from more companies.

Babauta said of the tournament, “This is going to be the largest in Micronesia. We encourage golfers to participate… We are looking forward to a full field So far, we have a little over 150 players and looking forward to filling that in the next couple of weeks.”

“We are looking forward to a fabulous two-day event. It’s going to be a beautiful day of golf outing. It’s going to be a bit hot, but we’ll hydrate a lot,” said Babauta.

The goal of the tournament, Babauta said, “is to facilitate our fundraising efforts for the state-of-the-art campus and offices, and also workforce development for our community.”

Deleon Guerrero for his part said, “This is an exciting time for the college. We are in growth mode. We’re launching new initiatives, but more importantly, we’re launching new facilities. But, as we grow, we see the need for additional support…”

He thanked the hard work of the NMC Foundation in helping supplement revenues, as well as doing a fantastic job to ensure that the golf tournament is going to be the “best of the best.” He also thanked the golfers, supporters, and donors who helped make it possible.

In the press conference with Deleon Guerrero and Babauta were NMC vice president of Administration and Advancement Frankie Elliptico; NMC Board of Regents chair Charles Cepeda; Foundation vice chair Joanna Pai; Foundation treasurer John Arroyo; and NMC Foundation members Roman Tudela and Michael Sheu.
